RCE Structure

The success of the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development greatly depends on the girth and the strength of collaborations and networks, the very foundations on which Education for Sustainable Development further evolves. Harmonization with other initiatives and networks also plays a key role. The exchange of experiences and information is in its turn an important aspect of such networks.

The way in which this collaboration is structured, of course strongly depends on the personal interests and commitment of the ESD stakeholders and on the local ESD context. Therefore RCE Southern North Sea has chosen for a project-oriented approach, which is translated into a flexible and dynamic RCE structure which consists of a Steering Committee and a Stakeholders’ Panel.

The Steering Committee concentrates on establishing project ideas and identifying existing projects that could possibly benefit from a multi-stakeholder approach. The Stakeholders’ Panel, in its turn, is an innovative platform where the dialogue between stakeholders is promoted and where the exchange of information and experience is at the centre. The project-oriented approach is reflected in the multidisciplinary project groups, which are composed of stakeholders from either the Steering Committee or the Stakeholders’ Panel and other regional actors, depending on the project’s needs and expectations. They are responsible for the execution of the project and its final result. The project groups are initiated and facilitated by the coordinating cell.

Also important for the functionality of the RCE are Sponsors who provide the financial backing.
